FAQs
Is electrolysis painful?
Most clients experience some discomfort during electrolysis, which can vary based on the area being treated and individual pain tolerance. However, many find the sensation to be manageable, and a topical anesthetic can be applied to minimize any discomfort.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies depending on the area being treated, hair type, and growth cycle. Typically, multiple sessions are needed to achieve permanent hair removal, and your electrologist will provide a personalized treatment plan during your consultation.
Is electrolysis safe?
Yes, electrolysis is a safe method for permanent hair removal when performed by a trained and certified professional. At Prism Electrolysis, we use state-of-the-art equipment and follow strict protocols to ensure your safety and comfort.
Which areas of the body can be treated with electrolysis?
Electrolysis can effectively treat unwanted hair on virtually any part of the body. This includes common areas like the face, chin, eyebrows, upper lip, neck, underarms, chest, back, abdomen, bikini line, arms, legs, toes, and fingers.
Can electrolysis be used on all hair and skin types?
Absolutely! Electrolysis is effective on all hair colors and skin types, making it a versatile option for anyone looking to achieve permanent hair removal. Unlike laser hair removal, which works best on dark hair and light skin, electrolysis works universally. Yes, even on red, white and blonde hair!
Does electrolysis remove all hairs in one treatment?
No, electrolysis typically requires multiple sessions to achieve complete hair removal. Each hair follicle goes through different growth cycles, and electrolysis is most effective during the active growth phase. Therefore, multiple treatments are necessary to target all hairs as they enter this phase.
How long does each electrolysis session take?
The duration of each session depends on the area being treated and the amount of hair present. Sessions can range from 15 minutes to over an hour. Your electrologist will discuss the expected duration with you during your consultation.
What should I do to prepare for my electrolysis session?
Before your session, make sure you are well-hydrated and moisturized. For the most comfortable treatment avoid caffeine as it can make you more sensitive. Avoid plucking or waxing the hair for at least a week prior to your appointment, as the hair needs to be present in the follicle for the treatment to be effective. For the most effective treatment we ask that you shave the area to be treated 3-4 days before your appointment.
Can I shave between electrolysis sessions?
Yes, you can shave between sessions if necessary. However, avoid plucking, waxing, threading or using depilatory creams, as these methods remove the hair from the follicle and can interfere with the effectiveness of your electrolysis treatments.
What aftercare is required following an electrolysis session?
Post-treatment care is crucial for optimal results. Avoid sun exposure, keep the treated area clean, and use a soothing moisturizer or aloe vera gel. Do not pick at any scabs that may form, and follow any additional aftercare instructions provided by your electrologist.
What are the possible side effects of electrolysis?
Right after your session, you might notice some redness or swelling, which usually goes away within a few hours. Occasionally, small whiteheads or tiny scabs can form. Whiteheads typically result from bacteria entering the follicle, so keeping the area clean for the first 24 hours is essential. Scabs are a normal part of healing and won’t cause any permanent damage if you leave them alone. Sometimes, trauma to the tissue can cause lymph fluid to seep out and form a scab as it dries. Applying an anti-bacterial ointment can help prevent scabs. With electrolysis performed by an experienced professional, there should be no permanent skin damage.
